Motability

Here at GowringsVersa Mobility, we’ve been supplying wheelchair accessible vehicles (WAVs) via the Motability Scheme for more than 50 years. Our team of Specialists are always on hand and dedicated to keeping you going.

What is Motability?

The Motability Scheme helps disabled people to get around by using their Mobility Allowance to lease a car, scooter or powered wheelchair. If you receive any of these benefits, you could be eligible:

  • Higher Rate Mobility Component of Disability Living Allowance (HRMC DLA)
  • Enhanced Rate of the Mobility Component of Personal Independence Payment (ERMC PIP)
  • War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement (WPMS)
  • Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP)

Here at GowringsVersa Mobility, we specialise in providing wheelchair accessible vehicles, so our team of experts can help you through the entire process.  Click here to see our Motability FAQs!

How does it work?

It all starts with a chat! One of our friendly Motability Specialists can visit you in your home to discuss your requirements and go through the whole process with you, answering any questions you may have before handling all of the paperwork needed to get you started.

As soon as that’s all taken care of, you can choose either a brand new or a Nearly New WAV.

Once the lease ends, just return the vehicle and choose another one!  Click here to see our Motability FAQs!

Who can drive my WAV?

Your Motability package comes with cover for two named drivers. You can add a third named driver later if you’d like, but there is a cost for this.

If you need more than three named drivers our Motability Specialist will help you through the ‘open policy’ process. This is ideal if you live in a home where there are multiple carers that need access to your vehicle.

How do the payments work?

Your Mobility Allowance (or part of it), is automatically paid directly to the Motability Scheme – so you don’t need to worry about making payments or setting up Direct Debits. If you’d like to have a wider choice of vehicles available to you, you can make an Advance Payment. This is a one-off payment that ‘tops up’ you Mobility Allowance to cover the cost of the vehicle.

What is the Nearly New Scheme?

The Nearly New Scheme is available from Motability to enable wheelchair accessible vehicles (WAVs) that are less than 3 years old and in very good condition to be sold to customers who are looking for either a quicker delivery for their new vehicle and/or a lower Advance Payment. The Nearly New Scheme affords all the exact same benefits as buying a brand new WAV on the Motability Scheme with the only difference being that Nearly New lease agreements are 3 years in length compared to the standard 5 years.

All of our Nearly New WAVs are quality checked and are ideal if you’d like to keep your Advance Payment as low as possible. There may be some minor cosmetic wear and tear, but if you’re looking for a more affordable WAV or a quicker delivery, then the Nearly New Scheme is the perfect solution.

What if I cannot afford the Advance Payment?

Motability is a national charity which provides grants to disabled people to help them join the Motability Scheme when they could otherwise not afford to. The grant money available is limited and therefore Motability can only help those customers most in need. To assess this, they means test all applications and any financial support given is always towards the best value solution for the wheelchair user’s needs.

If you want any more information about the grants process, just give our friendly team a call on 0345 608 8020, or you can learn more on the Motability website.

Worry-free motoring

Your Motability lease gives you less to worry about, and simply lets you enjoy your WAV. Included in the lease package are:

  • Servicing and maintenance
  • Breakdown cover in partnership with the RAC
  • Replacement tyres
  • Windscreen and window repair/replacement

After you’ve had your vehicle for a month, we’ll check in with you to make sure you’re happy with it, and that everything is working as it should.
