World champion and Paralympian Hannah Cockroft, has just scooped the title of Great Britain’s 2017 Disability Sportswoman of the Year.
The award is one of seven awards presented at the glittering annual Sunday Times Sportswomen of the Year awards. Now in their 30th year, the awards look to celebrate the outstanding achievements and contributions of women in British sport.
This summer, Hannah won three gold medals at the World Para Athletics Championships in London, and also broke the world record in the 100-metre race.
Unbeaten record
Unbeaten at World, European and Paralympic level for the last six years, the 25-year-old has won a total of five Paralympic golds and 10 world titles.
At the 2017 World Para Athletics Championships held in London, Hannah gave a spectacular performance. To the delight of her home crowd, she won triple gold in the 100m, 400m and 800m. She also won two in world record time, repeating her success at the Rio 2016 Paralympics.
Also nominated for the award were canoe world champions Emma Wiggs and Jeanette Chippington, and world Para athletics champion Sophie Hahn.
Unstoppable
Hannah suffered two cardiac arrests at birth which resulted in her having difficulty with balance, mobility and fine motor skills. However, she has let nothing stand in her way. Known as the Halifax Hurricane, Hannah has quickly become the most decorated senior British athlete in world championships history. But not only that, she’s become a huge inspiration and sporting hero across the country.
