Did you know that the Highway Code has been recently updated?
There have been significant changes to the Highway Code that you and any road user needs to be aware of.
In 2020, a public consultation took place to improve road safety for all road users (e.g. cyclists, horse riders, motorcyclists, pedestrians and drivers). As a result of this consultation, eight major changes were made to the Highway Code and these came
into force on 29 January 2022.
Naturally, all road users have a responsibility to look to the safety of other road users but the highest responsibility does lie with motorists.
A new risk-based hierarchy of road users has been introduced into the Highway Code. This hierarchy is listed according to the level of the user’s vulnerability.
There have also been significant changes in the Highway Code regarding the rights of way when turning into or out of a side road.
Detailed information on all of these changes to the Code can be found here.
